Project STRIVE

The purpose of Project STRIVE is to provide specialized career education for students with disabilities. Students will be instructed in job preparation skills, which includes competency–based applied learning that contributes to the student’s academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning, and problem-solving skills.

Educational Programming

  • Acquire customized occupation-specific skills training in the business, computer, and culinary fields in a career path aligned to personal goals
  • Enhance entrepreneurship experiences with comprehensive academic supports
  • Design and market various products utilizing technology and multi-purpose instructional materials within a laboratory setting simulating the trade field
  • Enhance problem-solving skills, technical skill attainment and work attitudes
  • Model integrity, leadership, self-advocacy, and self-determination
  • Demonstrate creativity, innovation and use of technology to enhance productivity

Vision

Project STRIVE’s vision is to empower students with disabilities to make successful transitions from school to the workforce by enhancing career interests as an integral part of their academic pursuits on the road to independent living.

Mission

The fundamental goal of Project STRIVE is to assist students in achieving the satisfaction of sustained gainful employment within their communities in their chosen career field.

Entrance Criteria

  • Age 18 to 22 with a moderate disability
  • Met graduation requirements
  • Demonstrate competencies identified for a specific career technical program component
  • Possess general communication, employability, self-regulation skills
  • Ability to work productively in teams
  • Have the desire to learn entrepreneurship skills
  • Have an interest in employment, postsecondary training or entrepreneurship in the field related field upon acquiring needed skills
